Getting Started with Christmas in Frederick

Out and about in town, I started looking for Christmas photo opportunities. While taking a photo in front of the Evangelical Reform church of Christ on West Church Street, Pat Sunday spotted me and invited me in for a view of the altar decorated for Christmas. The results are below.

In front of a home across from the Armory, I found this elaborate and beautiful creche scene.

The Glassblower

A friend who is a photographer recently took this photo at the Oktoberfest at Schifferstadt here in Frederick.  The photographer wishes to remain nameless, but the object of the photo is Kate Klipp, a glassblower who is shown hard at work for her craft. Click on the photo for a larger view and really appreciate the great detail and colors.

Here is a closeup.

I took a few photos of her hand blown objects in an earlier post on the Oktoberfest.

Moon Over Carrol Creek - by Don Frame

On First Saturday in downtown Frederick last week I stopped by McGuire Fine Arts gallery to see the photos of Donald Frame. Donald has some fabulous photos of the Carroll Creek Linear Park. Don was kind enough to send me a copy of one of my favorites to share with you.

There are many others worth a trip to McGuire's to see.  Don writes:

"The shot was taken to emphasize the rise of the super moon over Carroll Creek. Unfortunately the night we shot was cloudy and so were the next several nights so we had to shoot multiple shots of both scenes, the creek and the moon separately in order to produce a super moon shot this year. The Carroll Creek Linear Park is a beautiful location and perfect candidate for my style of photographic art. We enjoy walking, shopping and dining in the area and the myriad events and opportunities to see performers and art in the downtown area.
I maintain a Facebook page...Donald Frame, Photographer...for the many who have joined in viewing and appreciating my works. My photographs will be on display and available through the month of November at McGuire Fine Arts, 110 North Market Street, Frederick, MD (301) 695-6567."

Hurricane Sandy

The Frederick area has a lot of folks without power, downed trees as well as local flooding. Could have been much worse. At least we didn't have a blizzard on top of it like our neighbors to the west.

Fall Sky

Took this great shot of the sky and park in the morning. It's rather ominous looking. But in a few hours, we had a beautiful sunny fall day.

Oktoberfest and Rose Hill Carriage Drive

The Oktoberfest at the Schifferstadt usually draws a large crowd and today's gorgous weather made it perfect for wandering around the grounds and seeing the people, crafts, music, and food. After Oktoberfest I happened upon the tail end of the Rose Hill Carriage Society's annual carriage drive which went right up Market Street.

Oktoberfest's Best Wurst
Joan Deacon and her husband are dressed in colonial period costumes and described the uses for gourds.
Joan described and demonstrates the making of wine in colonial times using scuppernong grapes

This is a section of the Schifferstadt kitchen garden which includes herbs of all varieties.

The hand crafted glass sculptures of Kathleen Klipp.

Kathleen Klipp's dolphins caught the sunlight and really stood out.

The next few photos are from the Gourducopia booth.
Gary and Marilyn Cunningham from Thurmont create these colorful gourd crafts.

Marilyn Cunningham stands beside her dried gourd art.

Gary Cunningham demonstrates this wonderful gourd mask!
Gorgeous!

At the Ceramic Art and Tableware booth, Karen Russell
talks to a customer about the handmade pottery she creates.
This selection of Karen's pottery has a definite colonial look.
Funnel cakes, beer, kettle corn, struedle and wurst. What's not to love?
