Culler Lake - Geese on Water

I was struck by this scene of the geese on Culler Lake. I thought it was curious because some geese were swimming, some standing on ice, and others appear to be walking on water  :-).  Here it is in B&W which adds a nostalgic element. Click on the photo for a larger image.

Frederick - A Great Place to Live

Those of us who live in Frederick already know it has many advantages.  But sometimes it's more convincing when outside sources report that it is a great place to live.  A recent Washington Post article described Frederick's revitalized downtown.  Another online site, also reported Frederick as one of the 2014 10 Best Downtowns in which to live.

    "Talk to the Mayor Tuesdays"   

    Mayor McClement has set aside the 4th Tuesday of each month from 2-6 p.m. to meet informally with citizens to discuss topics or issues of their choice. The next "Talk with the Mayor Tuesday" will be held on November 25th.
    The Mayor's office is located in City Hall at 101 North Court St. No appointment is necessary and citizens meet with the Mayor on a first come; first serve basis.

    Free Holiday Parking in Downtown

    The City of Frederick Parking Department is pleased to announce FREE Holiday Parking in Downtown Frederick on the following days:
    • Thanksgiving Day and Frosty Friday,  November 27th and 28th, in City parking garages and at parking meters.  
    • Every Weekend (from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day) - Saturdays and Sundays from 8am Saturday to 6am Monday in all 5 City parking garages and at parking meters - normal rates apply after 6am on Mondays.

    National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is observed from November 16th through November 22nd. The Frederick County Coalition of the  Homeless (FCCH) is pleased to announce the following schedule of events and activities.

    Helpful Information to Increase Recycling
    Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

    Currently residents in The City of Frederick receive recycling collection through Frederick County Solid Waste Management every two weeks.  Some residents have requested the collection schedule be increased to once a week. Following a recent study, data showed there would have to be an increase in recycling efforts on the part of residents in order to justify a more frequent recycling collection.  Below are some important websites with information that will help you increase your recycling.

    Heroin is Here in The City of Frederick The Frederick Police Department and the Frederick County Health Department partnered to create a public service announcement on the increasing use of heroin. Heroin - Act Before It's Too Late, is a video detailing this increasingly deadly epidemic - one statistic that needs our immediate attention.

    City Tree Identification Course Update

    The City's tree identification course, the first step in the homeowner tree inventory has concluded. Participants learned to identify 48 trees. The data base will be introduced at the Green Neighbor Forum scheduled for February 28, 2015.     University of Maryland PALS Bus Tour
    PALS Project Underway in City

    On Saturday September 27, 2014, about 60 students and faculty from the University of Maryland came to Frederick for a bus tour and walking tour of downtown Frederick. This tour gave the Partnership for Advance Learning in Sustainability (PALS) participants an overview of our community.
    Students will be working on projects that range from Climate Change at the Watershed, Economics Benefits of Preservation, Jefferson Street Corridor Revitalization to developing better outreach to minority communities.
