Mayor
McClement has set aside the 4th Tuesday of each month from 2-6 p.m. to
meet informally with citizens to discuss topics or issues of their
choice.The next "Talk with the Mayor Tuesday" will be held on February 24th.
The
Mayor's office is located in City Hall at 101 North Court St. No
appointment is necessary and citizens meet with the Mayor on a first

Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK)
|
|
The Frederick Municipal Airport
is making progress on a project that will help "pave the way" for a
future runway expansion. The federally funded project will demolish 14
buildings owned by The City of Frederick that have been identified as
obstructions to safe air navigation.
The
Air Traffic Control Tower at FDK managed 88,858 aircraft operations in
CY2014. An "operation" is classified as a landing, takeoff, or
overflight. This equates to over 10 operations per hour every day of the
year!

will be hosting another Freecycle Roundup Day on Saturday, April 11th
from 8 AM to 2 PM at Walnut Ridge Park (new location), 1151 Rocky
Springs Road.

Craft spirits is a $10.2 billion market and growing at a rapid rate.
On December 18, 2014, The Board of Aldermen amended the City Code to
allow small wineries, breweries and distilleries in the downtown area,
paving the way for this growing industry to boom locally. The newest legislation expanded the area where businesses could operate. For more information, look here.

News from the Frederick Police Department

The first Coffee with a Cop
hosted by Dublin Roasters on Thursday, January 15th was quite a
success! Officers from the Frederick Police Department and community
members came together in an informal and neutral space to discuss
community issues, build relationships and drink coffee. "Coffee with a
Cop" is a national initiative supported by the United States Department
of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

 A tax credit for low income Maryland renters is available through the State Department of Assessments and Taxation.

Free Tax Preparation Service Open
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

More than a dozen free tax preparation service sites are open for
business throughout Frederick County. The Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance (VITA) program opened on Tuesday, January 20th providing free
tax preparation and filing for households earning less than $60,000
annually. To schedule your free appointment, simply dial 2-1-1.

addition, United Way, Goodwill, the National Disability Institute and
Walmart have partnered to offer the free tax filing service online with
As much as $6.2 million in Earned Income Tax Credits were left unclaimed by Frederick County residents last year.

TransIT Mobile App Launched
TransIT ezFARE

TransIt
Services of Frederick County has launched its mobile ticketing app,
TransIT ezFARE. This app allows passengers to purchase tickets with
smart phones,including the new one-day pass, and is available for
download on Android and Apple devices. Other features give users access
to trip planning tools and the TransIT twitter feed. For more

"Recycle More, Waste Less"Coloring Book Contest Announced
|
|

Frederick County students now have the unique opportunity to say a lot
about recycling! The Department of Solid Waste Management is conducting
a coloring book contest which is open to all local K-12 students.
The
contest, which runs through March 13th, asks participants to create a
black & white drawing based on the Department's motto "Recycle More,
Waste Less." Winning entrants will be awarded prizes as well as have
their artwork included in a coloring book to be distributed throughout
the community.
