'Tis the Season for Snow
Know what you must do
|
|
Believe it or not, it's that (snow) time of year again! The Department
of Code Enforcement would like to remind you that if
you are the owner or occupant of a property in The City of Frederick, abutting a sidewalk, you are responsible for removing the snow and ice from that sidewalk.
You
have up to 12 hours after the snow stops falling to clear the snow and
ice for a width of 4 feet (or the width of the sidewalk, whichever is
less). This is important for the safety of our residents and visitors.
It
is also required by city ordinance, and failure to comply is a
municipal infraction punishable by a fine of $100 - plus the costs of
removal.
 |
|
 |
The city's snow plow drivers get briefed on the upcoming season.
|
In addition, it is illegal to deposit snow or ice onto the street or
sidewalk. This defeats the efforts of snow plow drivers and causes public safety concerns. Violation is a municipal infraction punishable by a fine of $500 - plus the costs of removing the snow or ice and repairing any damage to city property.
Declared snow emergencies come with their own rules, posted on the city website.
