opening of H Mart
international grocery in 55,000 square feet of the
Westridge Shopping Center, 1063 W. Patrick St. Hundreds of shoppers and dignitaries, including First Lady Yumi Hogan (seen at right), joined Mayor Randy McClement, state elected officials, local and state business representatives, and cultural liaisons at the opening. Inside, visitors remarked on the wide array of international produce and prepared foods.

Creek that was unveiled in May will begin the next phase to get the
necessary state and City plan approvals.

Vibrant arts abound
|
Southen Methodist University's National Center for Arts Research Arts Vibrancy Index, rated Silver Spring Frederick Rockville, MD Metro Division No. 8 on the list of top 20 most arts vibrant large communities (population over 1 million). The overall index is composed of three dimensions: supply, demand and government support. The
Frederick/Silver Spring/Rockville area came in third among larger
communities nationally, regarding contributed arts revenue to nonprofit
arts and cultural organizations as well as arts expenditures. The full

At its airport, The City of Frederick offers a unique
economic development opportunity: Bids are being accepted to lease a
10-acre airport land parcel at market rate for the purpose of developing
general aviation aircraft hangar facilities.
The City of Frederick is the second largest city in Maryland
and FDK is the preferred executive airport in the Baltimore/Washington
region, with more than 70,000 aircraft operations annually.

June 10 Torch Run for Special Olympics

Maryland Special Olympics |
Join law enforcement agencies in the area and participate in
the 2017 Law Enforcement Torch Run behind the Talley Recreation Center,
121 N. Bentz St., on Saturday, June 10. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with the race beginning at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the event support Special Olympics Maryland.

The Frederick Police Department is
looking for the same great support it had last year, when it raised
approximately $10,000.00 for the Special Olympics Maryland. Participants
either donated, bicycled, ran, walked, or plunged.

Crowd Wheels Up for Carless Commute May 19

The Mayor made his ceremonial Bike to Work Day with hundreds of pedalers May 19: The annual event,
in support of alternatives to automobile commuting, has grown from 14
participants in 2002 to more than 300 this year. The group celebrated
commitment to bicycle commuting at the TransIT center pit stop: http://cityoffrederick.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?clip_id=3310.

Talk to the Mayor Tuesday

Anyone who would like to have time or conversation with Mayor
McClement has an opportunity to do so: He sets aside time on the fourth Tuesday
of most months to meet informally with citizens to discuss topics or
issues of their choice. The mayor will be away for the Maryland
Municipal League Summer Conference the fourth Tuesday in June, so the next Talk to the Mayor Tuesday will be July 25, from 2-6 p.m.
The Mayor's office is in City Hall at 101 N. Court St. No
appointment is necessary, and meetings occur on a first-come,
