PROJECT UPDATES
Sewer Lining: The $1.3 million main line sewer lining project involves the west end of Baker Park, and several other smaller areas throughout the City. This aim is to reduce/eliminate inflow and infiltration of groundwater and roots intrusion. Soon, a contractor will begin to line the 30-inch concrete pipe from behind the swimming pool to Fairview Avenue. The project should take four weeks to complete. There will be a larger black pipe placed in the park and two large pumps on the U.S.15 side of Fairview Avenue. The pipe will extend from the pumps to the manhole behind the playgrounds at the swimming pool.
Butterfly Lane Water Tank: This project to replace the tank is under design and specifications in order to bid out for construction mid-2018.
Water Loss Reduction: In the process of laying water main on Carroll Parkway, from College Avenue to North Jefferson Street, then will start North Jefferson from Carroll Parkway to West Patrick Street. Concrete work, including wheelchair ramps and sidewalk, is completed Elm Street, Park Avenue, West Fifth and Hood Alley. Mill and overlay work will occur in the spring.
Water Distribution Upgrades: The design is completed and DPW is in the process of obtaining the easement from the County to install a 12-inch main on Waterside Drive from the City line to Md. 26 to complete a crucial loop.

It's Curtains for the Gym
The William R. Talley Recreation Center gymnasium will be closed Dec. 27-29 to allow for curtains to be installed. When the gym reopens Dec. 30, unwanted sun glare should be a thing of the past.
Treating for Beetles
The City has received a $3,400 grant to deal with the destructive Emerald ash borer (EAB): Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire is an exotic beetle that was discovered in southeastern Michigan in the summer of 2002. The adult beetles nibble on ash foliage but cause little damage. The larvae (the immature stage) feed on the inner bark of ash trees, disrupting the tree's ability to transport water and nutrients. As of August 2017, it is now found in 31 states.
