Wings 'N' Wheels Event
May 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Wings 'N' Wheels Event at the Frederick Municipal Airport, 421 Aviation Way. Airplane, motorcycle, and classic custom car models will be on display. Children's activities will occur along with drawings for free flights, live music. Food trucks and vendors will attend. Minority Contracting in Review; Strategic Initiatives Pursued

Citywide Initiatives
With a self-imposed June 30 deadline, the Mayor's Strategic Opportunities Advisory Team continues to meet at 1 p.m., on alternate Fridays. Work groups will report on City departments' performance and potential to inform, engage and respond. All of the committee and work group meetings are open to the public, and meeting dates are posted online

Green Neighbor Festival, Bike to Work Day

Second Annual Green Neighbor Festival 
May 12
9 a.m., Green Neighbor Bike Ride:
The City and Bicycle Escape are partnering for a free one-hour ride to
start and end at Culler Lake.

10 a.m-4 p.m., free festival activities: Information about/demonstrations of  electric vehicles, sustainable practices, recycling; plus music, fun.

2018 City of Frederick Electric Vehicle Charging Station Plan: 300,000 electric vehicles are projected to be on the road by 2025, with nearly 4,000 of these vehicles being registered in Frederick County. The City of Frederick has adopted and approved its Plug-In Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Implementation Plan on March 1, 2018. For more information please visit,

New Interim 4-Way Stop Control for Christopher's Crossing-Opossumtown Pike Intersection: Current traffic patterns at the Opossumtown Pike and Christopher's Crossing intersection will change from a two-way stop to a four-way stop on or about May 7, 2018. Further details are here.

Lock Up Please!
Please help us and lock your vehicle, house and garage doors.  We continue to receive reports of people leaving their vehicles, homes, and garages unlocked and valuables being taken.  The easiest way to reduce your chances of becoming a victim is to lock your doors and remove any valuables from within your vehicle.  This  includes loose change, phone chargers, jewelry, clothing.

The Neighborhood Advisory Council Initiative, also known as NAC, is a forum for residents to become involved in identifying and recommending positive changes to improve their neighborhoods. Each NAC meets to discuss issues, concerns and neighborhood projects.
The goal is for everyone to work together to understand the impact that quality of life issues raise.

Outstanding Internship Program Award:  
The City of Frederick's Audio Visual Office has received the 2018 Career and Technology Education Outstanding Postsecondary Business Partnerships Award of Excellence from the Maryland State Department of Education for its internship program. 

Sali Dimond, digital image technician, and Lead Audio Visual Producer Lance Duvall are honored by the State Dept. of Education for their office's internship program. 
Parks and Recreation
May 19 Kids' Celebration at Parks; Summer Program Discounts  

May 19: National Kids to Parks™ Day:  
10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Location: Culler Lake/Carroll Creek
A day of outdoor play organized by the National Park Trust, established to encourage children to explore their neighborhood parks and discover science, history, nature, and adventure, encourage a new generation to lead a more active lifestyle.  This year at Culler Lake, the City Parks and Recreation Department has arranged to lead games and aquatic themed activities, including lake and creek fishing, bug identification, watershed demonstrations, fish and bird identification; and the Frederick Recreation Soccer league will play games at Fleming Field.

Programs Open at Discount as Needed
Spring 2018 The City of Frederick is pleased to announce the Reduced Registration Program. This program will enable eligible youth under the age of 18 to receive 50 percent off qualified programs through the Parks and Rec. Department. Those interested must provide proof of program eligibility in accordance with one of the criteria listed below: 
  • Eligible to receive free or reduced lunch through FCPS
  • Lives in a household receiving benefits from Food Supplement Program or Temporary Cash Assistance
  • Lives in one of the three public housing communities including Carver, Lincoln, or Lucas Village owned by the City of Frederick Housing Authority
Qualifying programs for spring/summer include, spring youth soccer, youth flag football, summer playground program, tennis instruction/camps, and golden knights karate. All registration information will be taken at the William Talley Recreational Center registration desk, located at 121 N. Bentz St., Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Reduced Registration Program sign up will not be available online. For all other questions please refer to the seasonal online brochure, or call 301-600-1492 for more information about specific programs.
