FEMA Aid, Monocacy Boulevard

Flood Repairs: Few signs of the heavy rains that hit May 16 and 17 may be visible still. Some of the millions of dollars' worth of damages occurred in Baker Park. On May 24, officials from the Maryland Emergency Management Administration and Federal Emergency Management Administration visited affected public spaces that flooded, to determine whether the City will receive disaster aid.

 Building Bridges: 
The new Monocacy Boulevard bridge is making progress, with the installation of structural steel in May.

Meetings Move to Allow for AV Office Modernization

Channel 99 Control Room Upgrade
The City of Frederick's Audio Visual control room is undergoing a major upgrade in June. To allow for construction, meetings that usually occur in the City Hall boardroom will move to the Municipal Annex, 140 W. Patrick St. Construction is expected to be finished by June 25

With a self-imposed June 30deadline, the Mayor's Strategic Opportunities Advisory Team and subcommittees continue their assessment of City departments' potential and performance. They will present reports on their findings and recommendations. All of the committee and work group meetings are open to the public, and meeting dates are posted online

June 16, Rain Date for Kids to Parks Day  

June 16: Frederick Kids to Parks™ Day:  
10 AM-1 PM
Location: Culler Lake/Carroll Creek
A day of outdoor play organized by the National Park Trust, established to encourage children to explore their neighborhood parks and discover science, history, nature, and adventure, encourage a new generation to lead a more active lifestyle.  This year at Culler Lake, the City Parks and Recreation Department has arranged to lead games and aquatic themed activities, including lake and creek fishing, bug identification, watershed demonstrations, fish and bird identification; and the Frederick Recreation Soccer league will play games at Fleming Field.

Programs Open at Discount as Needed
Spring 2018 The City of Frederick is pleased to announce the Reduced Registration Program. This program will enable eligible youth under the age of 18 to receive 50 percent off qualified programs through the Parks and Rec. Department. Those interested must provide proof of program eligibility in accordance with one of the criteria listed below: 
  • Eligible to receive free or reduced lunch through FCPS
  • Lives in a household receiving benefits from Food Supplement Program or Temporary Cash Assistance
  • Lives in one of the three public housing communities including Carver, Lincoln, or Lucas Village owned by the City of Frederick Housing Authority
Qualifying programs for spring/summer include, spring youth soccer, youth flag football, summer playground program, tennis instruction/camps, and golden knights karate. All registration information will be taken at the William Talley Recreational Center registration desk, located at 121 N. Bentz St., Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Reduced Registration Program sign up will not be available online. For all other questions please refer to the seasonal online brochure, or call 301-600-1492 for more information about specific programs.

Recognized for Outstanding Operations

Achievement: On behalf of his department, Finance Director Gerry Kolbfleisch accepted a certificate of appreciation from the Mayor and Board: The department earned a
Certificate of Achievement from the Government Finance Officers Association, the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Risk & Safety Office Details Flood Assessment

Flood Assessment  
The Frederick County Emergency Management Division and City of Frederick Office of Risk, Compliance, and Safety took a group of state and federal emergency management officials on tours of sites, such as Culler Lake, that were affected by flooding May 16 and 17.
Assessments by the state and federal officials will help determine the City's eligibility for disaster relief.

Help Reduce Theft

Lock Up Please!
Please help us and lock your vehicle, house and garage doors.  We continue to receive reports of people leaving their vehicles, homes, and garages unlocked and valuables being taken.  The easiest way to reduce your chances of becoming a victim is to lock your doors and remove any valuables from within your vehicle.  This  includes loose change, phone chargers, jewelry, clothing.  

Do You Know Your NAC?
The Neighborhood Advisory Council Initiative, also known as NAC, is a forum for residents to become involved in identifying and recommending positive changes to improve their neighborhoods. Each NAC meets to discuss issues, concerns and neighborhood projects.
The goal is for everyone to work together to understand the impact that quality of life issues raise.
